Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Degree in Electrical Engineering

This is an upgrade programme for holders of a Higher Diploma or Higher Certificate in Electrical Engineering. The programme is well suited to those who work in industry and wish to upgrade their careers to become qualified professional electrical engineers. The programme makes full use of students’ existing knowledge and industrial experience. The curriculum is credit-based and flexible in structure for part-time study.

This programme will not admit new students from academic year 2017/18.

Programme Structure

Students are required to attend classes for 2 or 3 evenings during weekdays and/or Saturdays.

  • In Year One, the fundamentals of electrical engineering are taught, including circuits, computer systems, mathematics and applied electromagnetics.
  • In Year Two, this fundamental knowledge is strengthened by Core Subjects in electrical engineering, including Power Transmission and Distribution, Electromechanical Energy Conversion, Power Electronics and Drives, and Control Systems.
  • In Year Three, advanced Core Subjects in electrical engineering are taught, including Electrical Machines and Power Systems. Students normally start the Major Project in Semester 2.
  • In Year Four, the Project is completed and students acquire advanced knowledge through Elective Subjects (including specialist technical electives, non-technical broadening electives and/or MSc subjects from a range of choices available).

Professional Recognition

The programme has been granted full accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).
