Dr Dong received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1999. He previous hold positions at universities and power transmission companies.

He has over 200 publications in journals and conference proceedings. His publication also includes editorial, book chapters and technical reports. His research interest includes power system security assessment, power system planning and management, electricity market simulation and risk management, data mining, computational intelligence and their application in power engineering.

He has attracted competitive research grants. He and has been providing consulting services mostly in power engineering areas for companies and institutions in Australia, Canada, China and USA. His consulting and research projects include power system sensitivity analysis, power system contingency assessment, power system protection, power system load modeling and forecasting. He is experienced with power industry transmission system planning practice.
