Professor Kit Po Wong was a graduate of Hong Kong Technical College in 1967. He obtained MSc and PhD from UMIST in 1972 and 1974 respectively. In 2001, he was awarded the higher doctorate degree DEng also from UMIST. Professor Wong is a Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers USA, Fellow of Institution of Engineers UK and Fellow of Institution of Engineers Australia.

Since August 2002, Professor Wong has joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Chair Professor. From 1974 to 2002, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Western Australia, where he has held various positions including Professor of Electrical Engineering. Professor Wong is an internationally known expert in the areas of power system engineering and computational intelligence applications in power with over 160 research papers. His current research interests include power market analysis, power system planning and operation in deregulated environment, power quality, evolutionary optimization and Wavelet transform in power.

Professor Wong is a recipient of three Sir John Madsen Medals (1981, 1982 and 1988) from the Institution of Engineers Australia, the 1990 Outstanding Engineer Award from IEEE Power Chapter Western Australia and the 2000 IEEE Third Millennium Award. His lecture assignments have taken him to USA, UK, China, Hong Kong (China) and a number of South East Asian countries. Professor Wong has been a member of editorial boards of international journals. Appointed by UNESCO, he is the Honorary Theme Editor on Electrical Engineering for the Encyclopedia of Life Supporting Systems. Professor Wong was the General Chair of IEEE PES/CSEE PowerCon 2000 conference.
