Dr. Ngan received his M.Sc in 1979, MBA in 1985 and PhD in 1993 from the University of Aston, University of Hong Kong and University of Strathclyde respectively.
Since 1983, he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic (now the University since 25 November 1994) and is now the Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He has been conferred the title - Guest Professor of the Institute of Electric Power Economics by the North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China since January 2011; and the title - Invited Specialist by the Research Centre for Beijing Energy Development since January 2011.
Professionally, he is an active advocate of learned activities such as being the Chairman of the SSP of the IET Hong Kong in the Sessions 2002/03 and Chairman of the Hong Kong Section, IEEE in the years 2003 and 2004. He was elevated to the Senior Member grade of IEEE in 2001, Fellow Member grade of IET (FIET) in 2006 and Fellow Member grade of HKIE (FHKIE) in 2011.
His current research interests include Power Market Reform and Simulation, Sustainable Energy Development, Integration of Renewable Energy to Smart Grid, and Energy Policy Planning. He has successfully supervised higher research projects of PhD, DEng, DBA, MPhil and MSc degrees in various topics of research interests.
