Master of Science (MSc) in Electrical Engineering

MSc in Electrical Engineering

We provide advanced study opportunities for electrical engineers who are working in power
utilities, electricity utilization industries, electrical product manufacturing industries, government
organizations and contracting and consulting companies. We will develop your in-depth
knowledge of state of the art advances in modern electrical science and technology such as
power systems, the industrial utilization of electrical energy, power electronics, railway systems
and drives control, automation and optoelectronics.

The programme (code: 05002) also allows you to take a combination of subjects that lead to specialization
options in:

        Electrical Power Systems,

        Power Electronics and Drives

Railway Systems (offered in collaboration with MTR Corporation Ltd)

Programme Structure

The programme provides the option for students to either engage in a full-time study load (taking 9 credits or more in a semester) or a part-time study load (taking less than 9 credits per semester). In general, each subject requires one evening class a week over a 14-week semester. Full-time students normally take 5 subjects in a semester, and part-time students usually take 2 subjects.

Students enrol in the MSc in Electrical Engineering programme and can select from a wide range of subjects offered under the Postgraduate Scheme in Engineering, and those offered by other Faculties, including Accounting, Applied Mathematics, Business, Computing, Construction and Land Use, Logistics, Management, and Rehabilitation Sciences.  They can also select combinations of subjects that allow them to graduate with a specialisation award.
